The news comes ahead of a 24-hour strike by the RMT union on Wednesday, which will see tens of thousands of Network Rail workers and 14 train operators walk off the job. The Transport Salaried Transport Association (TSSA) has also called a strike by its Avanti West Coast members on Wednesday, while members of the Aslef drivers union in eight companies will strike on Saturday. Two more days of rail strikes have been announced by the RMT for August 18 and 20.
