Rupert Murdoch’s newly launched conservative channel Talk TV announced the end of the debate minutes after viewers heard a loud camera crash. Kate McCann fainted on air tonight and although she is fine, medical advice was that we should not continue with the conversation. We apologize to our viewers and listeners. — TalkTV (@TalkTV) July 26, 2022 The incident happened as current Secretary of State Truss was answering a question in the debate — as you can see in the video below. While producers scrambled to figure out what to make of the second showdown between the former cabinet colleagues, ex-chancellor Sunak and front-runner Truss wasted no time in taking their respective positions in the high-stakes showdown to the closest voters they could find . As the Spectator’s deputy political editor Katy Balls made clear from the London studio: Sunak and Truss now talking to the audience on the Talk TV debate pic.twitter.com/NBct9h8K6a — Katy Balls (@katyballs) July 26, 2022 Both candidates also gave their best to Talk TV political editor McCann. So relieved to hear @KateEMcCann is fine. I’m really sorry that such a good conversation had to end. Looking forward to seeing Kate and the rest of the @TheSun @TalkTV team again soon. — Liz for Leader (@trussliz) July 26, 2022 Good news you’re already on the mend @KateEMcCann. It was a great conversation and I look forward to getting back on the coals soon! — Rishi Sunak (@RishiSunak) July 26, 2022 EARLIER, 11:08am: Tonight’s UK Prime Ministerial debate has been interrupted after a loud crash was heard mid-show on Rupert Murdoch-backed Talk TV. Scroll down for the moment it happened. A spokesman for Talk TV News UK said it was “a medical issue, not a safety issue and the candidates are fine”. ITV News political correspondent Carl Dinnen tweeted that he understood debate presenter Kate McCann, The Telegraph’s Senior Political Correspondent, had taken ill. He was supposed to present with Harry Cole, the Sun’s political editor, but he pulled out before the debate after testing positive for COVID-19. The show is attempting to return to air as we write. The showdown is between Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss, the two candidates vying to replace Boris Johnson, a day after the BBC debate. The Truss camp has been criticized by Sunak’s for turning down an offer to be grilled by big beast Andrew Neil on Channel 4 later this week. Talk TV is the recently launched Murdoch-backed channel that features regular shows from Piers Morgan and securing the second major prime ministerial debate was a coup for the network. What the hell happened then? I hope everyone is well! #TalkTV #TheSun pic.twitter.com/M9RvqVyCr3 — Harry Rutter (@harryjohnrutter) July 26, 2022
