The mystery surrounding the disappearance and death of Texas mother Christina ‘Chrissy’ Powell has deepened with the discovery of her body, which was found decomposed in the passenger seat of her car in a shopping mall parking lot, where she had passed unnoticed for a week.
Powell, a 39-year-old lawyer and mother of two, disappeared from her home on July 5.
Ring’s eerie dashcam footage showed her rushing out of her home with her bag slung over one shoulder.
She didn’t take her phone with her and left her home without her medication.
For three weeks, her family and friends desperately searched for answers. Yesterday, the San Antonio Police Department announced that she was found dead.
Her body was discovered in the passenger seat of her car, parked outside the Salt Grass Steakhouse in the Huebner Oaks shopping plaza.
A security guard said he decided to approach the car because it had been sitting there for a week. As he approached, he senses a “bad smell” coming from inside.

Now, Chrissy’s grieving family and friends remain at a loss for where she was in the first two weeks she was missing, why the car was spotted a week ago and not reported, and, crucially, how she died.

Powell’s grieving mother, Claudia Mobley, wrote on Facebook on July 25 that her daughter had been found dead. Mobley had taken to social media to ask for information about her whereabouts after she disappeared
“Not knowing is one thing, but trying to put all the pieces together is even more frustrating,” Chrissy’s best friend Lauren Leal told local outlet KEN5 yesterday.
Powell has a 12-year-old son from a previous relationship and a three-year-old son with Kandi. She and her 12-year-old child lived with her mother
The fact that Chrissy was found in the passenger seat and not in the driver’s seat also remains a mystery.
The San Antonio Police Department doesn’t seem to have any more answers than the family.
Police sources told DailyMail.com on Tuesday that they do not know how Chrissy died, but believe her death was self-inflicted based on the fact that her body showed no signs of trauma.
“It could be a number of things – carbon monoxide, heat exhaustion, drugs … we won’t know until we get the coroner’s report back,” said a person with knowledge of the investigation.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner has completed an autopsy, but the manner and cause of death have not yet been released.
Hence, the post-mortem report is yet to be made public.
A spokesman for that office told DailyMail.com on Tuesday that it could be six months before they release the report, which could dramatically delay the police investigation.
To date, there has been no suggestion of foul play by the police.
At the beginning of her disappearance, the police ruled out Chrissy’s ex.
Chrissy’s sister, in announcing her death on Facebook yesterday, signaled that she was struggling with mental health issues.
“Hold and hug your loved ones very tightly. Check on friends who are going through hard times,” said her sister, Jennifer.
Chrissy’s mother Claudia had appealed for any information leading to her whereabouts on social media. On Monday, she posted that she was “heartbroken” by the discovery of her daughter’s body.
