“Actors and writers should be given every award”

Jo (right) with Alan Fletcher, who played long-running character Carl Kennedy, in 2002. Neighbors was groundbreaking in the ways it delivered inclusivity and representation, tackled very difficult subjects and gave up-and-coming talent to the industry. My favorite story was Sonya’s death. Even typing it now brings a lump to my throat. The performance of Eve Morey (Sonia) and Ryan Moloney (Toadie) was excellent. The way they exuded every emotion of those going through a terminal illness was incredibly beautiful. The actors and writers of these episodes should be given every award. Jo, 43, marketing manager, London

“I’ve been watching it for as long as I can remember”

The guy (left) with Margot Robbie when she starred in Neighbours. Neighbors is my 22 minute escape day. I’ve watched it for as long as I can remember. It has been with me from school and university to now being a ‘proper’ adult. There’s a real online community around the show, which has only grown in recent years. Neighbors can handle serious and silly stories alike and will leave a void when he’s gone. As a standout moment from the show, the duet between Jackie Woodburne (Susan Kennedy) and Finn Kelly (Rob Mills) was a masterpiece: claustrophobic, tense and so well-behaved, right after a week of special episodes to celebrate. 35th year of the show. “It was a constant and a comfort”

Tim’s picture of Ramsay Street, where Neighbors is located. Neighbors have been a constant and a comfort throughout my life. No matter how dark real life got, there was always a safe space to escape to. a reminder of the good in people, the values of friendship, hope, possibilities and positivity. I lost my parents in 2005 and 2018 and both times it was the program that pulled me through the darkest parts of my life. We will miss him dearly, but the memories will be cherished for a long time to come. Tim, 47, musician, Bristol

“He was always there. He always made me happy.’

Emily (right) with Carla Bonner, who played Steph. Neighbors mean a lot to me. I watched it twice a day for years as a kid and in college I revised it. As an adult, it was the show my husband and I always watched together. When we went to Australia in 2002 we made a long detour to Melbourne to visit Ramsay Street and go to Neighbors Night – where we met Karl, Steph and Darcy. The moment that sticks in my mind the most from the show is when Drew died – it was devastating. It was always there. He always made me happy. Will miss him. Emily, 39, Newport

“Neighbors are like a good friend to me”

Calvin wearing the Everyone Is Welcome on Ramsay St t-shirt. I have autism and the neighbors are like a good friend to me. I won a contest in 2012 and still have the props I won as well as a signed script. I also have a lot of memorabilia including VHS tapes, DVDs, CDs and stamp collections. My first memory of Neighbors is that the coffee shop blew up and Harold helped save De Klerk. I also really enjoyed the Susan/Karl/Izzy storyline, as well as when Susan found out she had MS. There are so many remarkable stories. The show will be truly missed. Calvin, 39, Nottinghamshire

“I like to escape to the sun and attractive people”

I watched Neighbors in the beginning and over the years I’ve dipped in and out, but I’ve been watching constantly for the last five or six years. I love the long running characters like Karl and Susan, Toadie and Paul. I enjoy my half hour escape to the sun and the attractive people. Yes, the stories can be predictable and ridiculous, but there is also humor – and things are resolved quite quickly. I will really miss Neighbours. It’s a little light relief from the sadness of the real world. Jo Lea, 66, retired occupational therapist, Jersey
