Mrs Truss’s parliamentary portfolio is led by Sophie Jarvis, one of her long-standing special advisers who started working in Westminster at the Adam Smith Institute, a right-wing free-market think tank. Mrs Truss’s senior policy adviser is Hugh Bennett, who cut his teeth at the website Brexit Central, which examined the government’s plans to leave the European Union before moving into government to advise ministers on Brexit. Another former executive is press officer Lauren Maher, a former member of the centre-right policy think tank, which is run by Robert Colvile, co-author of the 2019 Tory manifesto. Ms Truss’s policy chief is Jamie Hope, who started working for the Tory Party during the 2017 general election and then went to work for Amanda Milling, who later became Conservative leader. Ms Truss’s team of policy experts sits alongside a trusted team of experienced advisers with long experience of both the Tory party and Whitehall.
