“Britney got her freedom last November and as many of you know, especially in light of the recent news, Britney is moving on with her life,” Rosengart said, referring to the star’s recent marriage. “She wants to get on with her life. And yet this man, her father, her flesh and blood, doesn’t want that.” CNN has reached out to Jamie Spears’ lawyer for comment on the decision. “We hope (Jamie Spears) accepts his losses and just moves on and leaves his daughter alone,” Rosengart said in a statement to CNN. “That’s what any decent man, any decent father would do.” The Grammy winner was in court-ordered custody for 13 years before it was terminated in November. Spears’ father has acted as her conservator since the conservatorship was established in 2008. This has put him in charge of her finances and, to some extent, her medical decisions. The two faced off in court several times last year with things coming to a head during two emotional testimonies in which the singer pleaded with the judge to end the conservatorship, calling it “abusive”. Spears said she felt forced to perform, denied privacy and forced to use birth control and take medication against her will. Outside court Wednesday, Rosengart also took a moment to speak on behalf of AB 1663, a California bill that would amend the rules for the conservatorship process, saying that while Spears “shed light on this issue,” now it’s “beyond Britney”. The bill is currently in the state legislature. “This is not about Britney, this is beyond Britney,” Rosengart said while surrounded by supporters of the bill. “There are many people in the country and in the state who are not free and subject to coercive abusive conservatorships. And that’s something I look forward to working with legislators on, both in California and in Washington, DC.”
