HONG KONG (AP) – A falling video screen hit and injured two dancers on the concert stage as Cantopop group Mirror performed Thursday night in Hong Kong.
Videos released on social media showed Mirror members Anson Lo and Edan Lui performing with a dozen dancers when one of the many hanging LED screens fell on stage.
The falling screen appeared to hit a dancer directly in the head and body before falling onto another performer as the audience screamed in terror. The rest of the performers on stage rushed to help those who were hit by the screen, the videos showed.
Police said the two male dancers were conscious when they were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Local media reported that the hospital said one of the dancers was in serious condition while the other was stable.
Police said three members of the public were also taken to hospital, one who felt unwell and two others in shock, but did not require medical treatment.
The concert was called off following the incident, which occurred during the fourth of Mirror’s 12 scheduled concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
At Tuesday’s concert, band member Frankie Lui was seen losing his footing and falling off the edge of the stage while giving a speech, according to excerpts on social media.
On the same night, an online petition for security issues at the Mirror concerts was launched and has gathered thousands of signatures. The petition urged organizers to ensure safety for Mirror and her dancers and to refrain from using unnecessary stage machinery or elevated platforms.
Viu, the company that created and operates Mirror, did not respond to an emailed request for comment.
The 12-member group has skyrocketed to popularity in Hong Kong and has been credited with reviving Cantopop.
