The incident took place in the car park of a plaza on Wonderland Road, south of Teeple Terrace. The victim was locked out for the day at RK Forever Jewellry, according to his business partner. “He went across to that car and as soon as he went there was another car, the other black car was a black car that started moving two guys got out of the car jumped out of the car, one with a gun,” said Subhi . Alcotub. CTV News was shown surveillance video of the attack, where you can see two men jump out of the vehicle, walking out of camera range, but seconds later you see a red SUV the victim was driving quickly reverse and move to a safe distance . “Then it’s Rahim [the victim] he realized they were trying to jump them, so when the car started moving, that’s when the bullet came out and shot him,” Alcotubb said. Police described the incident as a fight in a news release sent out Thursday morning, but family and friends believe it was a targeted robbery attempt “My explanation is that they were trying to get him back to the store because everything is in the safe. So they would force them to take everything out and grab it and leave,” Alcotubb said. The brazen attack happened after many of the businesses in the square had closed for the evening, so many of them didn’t learn about what happened when they came to work on Thursday. “This is usually a quiet area even though it’s in Wonderland, it’s quiet like nothing ever happened here again, I live in the area so it’s just shocking,” said Alicia Willaeys The victim underwent a three-hour operation at the hospital on Wednesday night and is now in a stable condition “He’s lucky the bullet was about an inch from the heart and they were able to get it out and stabilize him,” Alcotubb said. Police are investigating the incident and are asking the public to check their body cameras if they were in the area around 6pm on Wednesday.
