McCarthy used seven task forces in the summer of 2021 to begin drafting a legislative agenda if Republicans regain the majority, with the goal of releasing a document before the end of the summer that members can submit this fall. The seven working groups share their focus on topics such as: Jobs and the economy. Censorship and Big Tech Data. Future of American Freedoms? Climate and Conservation; American Security; Healthy Futures? and Accountability of China. The task force chairs held presentations earlier this year at a shelter in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. With gas prices, inflation and crime emerging as some of the most important issues ahead of the midterm elections, Republicans aren’t just planning to use them as cudgels against Democrats this November, they’re also offering their own policy prescriptions for these problems in their attempt to win back the majority. “You’ll see the detail come out over the summer and probably early September,” House Republican Rep. Steve Scalise told reporters at a weekly GOP press conference. “We’ve had these task forces over the last few months where we’ve been working out the plans to bring down inflation, to get spending under control, to bring down gas prices, to secure America’s borders.”
