Police said it happened near Highway 54 and Onondaga Townline Road around 7:20 p.m. The man’s boat was located, but police have not found the man. “The investigation will continue until the individual is located,” said Derek Rogers, OPP regional media relations coordinator. Police converged on the area and began a ground search, locating the personal craft shortly after arrival. He is described as tall, with a thin build. The man was wearing gray shorts, no shirt or personal flotation device (PFD). “There is no good reason not to wear a life jacket. It’s unfortunate, and it happens all too often in our waterways in the western region,” Rogers said. “The Grand River conditions are definitely choppy and the visibility is poor, so it’s not going to help the search effort,” Rogers said. CTV News spoke with a man who says he was with the 26-year-old at the time of the incident and said his friend just wanted to test out his new Sea-Doo and fell when he stood up and made a turn. There is an increased police presence in the area as OPP Aviation Services, OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU), Brant County OPP members, Brant County Marine Unit, Haldimand County Marine Unit, Emergency Response Team (ERT ), the Provincial Liaison Team (PLT) and the Six Nations Police Service are involved in the investigation. Police are concerned for the man’s safety and are asking anyone who spots him to contact them immediately at 1-888-310-1122.
